Riga, Latvia

I was greeted at the airport by my host Zane. She has to work during my stay in Riga, but we did however spend some time with each other over dinner. She cooked really good food, she make easy food good. Riga is a very small city and could be easily completed within a day even if you visit all the museums. It is full of history and it is like Singapore. With a strong port, every country wants a piece of the strategic location. You have seen it taken over by Germans, Swedish and Russians over the years.

My host told me that the Latvian boys are really boring and seldom go out. So the rumour about you can get a girl to sleep with you over a cocktail is almost entirely true.

Tough luck as there ain’t any sun, so the pictures are rather pale.

This is the independence monument.
The Cathedral of Riga which is the oldest Cathedral in the Baltic region.
Some random shots in the city center. I reckoned that it should be so much nicer during summer. But oh well, even though it was kinda glommy, but it still impresses me quite a bit.
Even though it belongs to the eastern Europe, you do not expect to pay eastern Europe prices. And it can also be as expensive as the Western Europe or worst.

Budapest, Hungary

The trip to Budapest was almost virtually impossible because I couldn’t get any information from the internet as of how do I get from Bucharest to Budapest. And when I was in Bucharest, I found out that it will take me 13 hours to travel from Bucharest to Budapest, even though the countries are beside each other. I heard so many things about Budapest, and I know I cannot miss it, moreover, I have got a plane leaving Budapest to Amsterdam.

The 13 hours travel was worth it. I was greeted by my lovely host, Lilla, her dad and her best friend, Marianna. As soon as I arrive at their house, I felt at home. Her family was really nice to me. They served me good fresh wedges and pork stewed, and it was so good. And I was served with house wine. Yes, wine that they made themselves. It was so good. I was also thought how to drink wine the Hungarian way… The mixed cola with wine and it taste really good. I think it will be a good idea to mix rubbish wine with cola. Good wine must appreciate it.

Then after dinner, they took me down to their cellar and try all the different wine that they made. There were lotsa and lotsa wine, accompanied with cheese and walnuts. It was heavenly. The whole family in cellar drinking with me. And at the end, only Marianna, her dad and me left. Lilla need to study for her exam the next day, so she went to study, the rest of her family was kind of drunk.

I felt really touched by Lilla’s kind gesture as she had exam the next day, but she still make the special effort to come and pick me up from the train station and accompanied me for dinner. It was during her exam period, but she has everything planned for me. She got her best friend to show me around on the 1st day and gotta her another 2 friends who were tour guides to show me around the next day. She planned everything for me!!! She is so sweet. I just love her so much!!!

Guess how the name Budapest comes about. The north side of Budapest is call Buda and the south side is call Pest, and that is how the city is called Budapest. It is true!!!

This is the hero square, where all the past heros of Hungary.
This is one of the architecture.
What does these number means? Are we in Matrix?
St. Steven’s Basilica.
The parliament house.
This is a sight which is beside the river. The shoes are supposed to represent many millions of jews who where killed at this spot during the German occupation.
This is the night view of Castle Hill.
A picture of the famous Chain Bridge.
This is Budapest’s very own, statue of Liberty.
The night view of Budapest.
Marianna, and Lilla’s 2 tour guide friends, Eva and Dalma who accompanied me the 2nd evening. This is a small gift given to me by Lilla’s parents. They are so sneaky. They purposely told me not to buy this region of wine because they have bought it for me already. I have done my research and I know that the wine from this region is one of the best, but Marianna told me that it is not as good what she recommend. Lolx, Finally, I was naïve enough to believe, but I really like the present, the wine and Hungarian version of Chili Sauce.
This is the wonderful family (From Left: Lilla’s Sista – Claudia, Lilla, behind is Lilla’s mum and dad, and Marianna)
Budapest is definitely my top 5 location. I just love it, so so much!!! And I miss Lilla and her family and friends too.

Bucharest, Romania

Saw the entire city in a day. It is not really small, but my host brought me to all the places, so I do not have to actually go look for which places to go.

It is quite a beautiful city, unfortunately, again, because of winter, it may not be as nice as it is going to be in summer.

Look at the snow by the side of road. The snow which was there weeks ago makes the road, muddy and dirty. It was beside an abandoned house.
The War Memorial.
The Parliament.
A night shot together with a full moon of a church.
An artistic shot.
This is a picture of my Bucharest host, Veronica. She is the Ambassador of Bucharest, Romania.
She organized a small CS gathering at her place. The community in Bucharest is really lively and I was saboed to sing. How embarrassing is that? But thank god, I doubht they know what song I was singing. =p
This is the picture of some of the people who are present at the CS meeting.

Brasov, Romania

Is a town that is beside Bran, and is famous for the Black Church.
This is the center of Brasov.
Look, it has a holloywood kinda design….
I had this for lunch. Stewed beef in Tomatoes and Potatoes. Great… We were all in the mad rush starting from rushing for train in the morning from Bucharest and we bought a bus ticket to return to the train station in Brasov, but the bus was so late, so we got a cab and when we arrived we still have some time, so we decide to sell our bus tickets to the local. It was such an adventurous day, and we even hitched hike from Bran to Brasov….

Bran, Romania

The castle of Count Dracula. Bran in Transylvania, Romania. It was nothing like what the TV shows, but it was really quite nice. Count Dracula really did exist, but where or not it is a vampire, it was how the story writers portrayal of him. He did suck a lot of blood out of people, figuratively.

This is the Count Dracula’s Castle.
This is a self portrait of Dracula, and it is exactly how he looks like. The real name of the real Dracula is called Vald Tepes who really existed. But whether or not if he is a vampire, god knows!!!
And this is…definitely not a vampire, if it is, definitely a cute and handsome one.

Sofia, Bulgaria

You can literally complete touring Sofia within a few hours. I feel bad saying this, but the city was really muddy and the pollution is really high too. A lot of snow and puddle of water everywhere. It just makes the city really unsightly. I totally believe that everywhere is different, and I have never dislike any city, neither do I dislike Sofia. But so many people had told me good things about Sofia. The food is really disgusting. I can’t really say much about it.

I guess the only good thing that I found was my host, Roberta who is from Italy. She was sick, but nevertheless, gave me quite a good place to stay. How dirty is dirty…just look at this car.
Aleksander Nevski Church is one of the nicest church there is.
This is a picture of a city side walk in the garden.
A typical Orthodox Church.

Athens, Greece

A place I have always wanted to visit because of so much stunning pictures that I have seen. True to what I have seen, the city is really amazing. When there is sunlight, everything here is great. Of course, one thing that was not that true to what you have seen of 300, is that just because of one guy (the abnormal Spartan) who led 100,000 tourists into Greece overnight. J And of course, no one at Sparta today looks like any of the 300. =p

First of all, my host Stavros is really nice, a talented tango dancer, a magician and a great traveler too. The main attraction of course is the Acropolis. It is one of the most important ancient monuments in the Western world.
Then there is Propylaia.
And then the Temple of Athena Nike.
This is me sitting at Erechtheion.
These are 2 shots that show why I’m at the top of the world. Ok, I shouldn’t rub it in when I’m busy traveling for the past 8 months and so many people are working their arse off. But no, the reason is not that, but is because I feel that I’m free. Literally free from anything…the feeling is just so good, especially with a great view of Athens to die for.
Anyone have any idea where is this place? It is where Olympic started. And this is the first and the original stadium where it started. Isn’t it nice…. We had a great Greek dinner but one of the best that I have this night is the Greek bread. Is really good.
And this is the great company for the night.
