Murchison Kayaking Trip

Just came back from a week long kayaking trip in Murchison with Otago Univeristy's Canoe Club. Attempted countless of rivers and tried some fantastic rapids. It was real sweet. The travelling is a little crazy though. We spend like 8 hours traveling up and another 8 hours travelling back.

This is one of the rapids that many people capsized. But it is sure fun...

Other than the usual kayaking session, the company is rather extreme, they drink everynight, as if beers are free. And on Wednesday, the club brought us to Marian Hot Springs. It was so good. Natural germo heated water and then japanese hot bath was complimentary too. Super shiok. All of us didn't like bathe the whole time because every shower cost $2, so for a week, all of us did not bathe. :p smelly smelly... The guys often change and pee just anywhere...I wonder how come they dun get stage frights.

On our last night, the organisers got us a sheep that was killed in the morning, and we went to bbq it. Look at the pictures for the preparations of the lamb...pretty gross but kwel.

On the last night, we had some campfire, and we have a "court session" where everyone is put on trial. They have so many different type of 'creative' punishments and the poeple are really sporty to do it. And the club president actually strip naked to drink finish the beer. They have a kayak full of beers, which could probably enough to make us all drunk for 2 nights in a row. Can you guys imagine how much the people drink here. Other than drink, they smoke heaps of weed...and is so freaking expensive to purchase weed.

On our return trip. We stopped over at Marian Falls. It was absolutely beautiful. Rainbows over the waterfall. The waterfall was created because of the surging of one of the plates caused by earthquake in the 1800s. Quite a fair bit of people attempted the waterfall. It doesn't seem difficult to me, probably because I have learnt to want to try as many things as possible. Lotsa people freak out thou. Look at this beautiful picutre and then look at the video. A chance of a lifetime that I know I will never regret in the years to come, kayaking down a waterfall. :)

And finally, an experience of a lifetime kayaking down a waterfall. :)
