Venice, Italy
I got another chance to meet up with Elena again. This time is with her family. Because she is catching a train back to Milan, so we have about 2 hours with each other. Her parents are really sweet. They cooked us some pasta and fresh whipped potatoes. It was so good.
Again, before I arrive, I heard so many stories about Venice, a city of romance, beautiful canals and fascinating sceneries. It was true, but I guess some people whom visited the same time as me beg to differ.
In my opinion, it was really nice minus of course the cold. Didn’t have the best of my couchsurfing experience here because there wasn’t heater at home, so it was even colder at home than outside. But still, we saved heaps because Venice is a city that only caters to tourists. Everybody that works in Venice is only for tourism.
The gondola is going at 80 euros per ride. That is ridiculous.
Had the chance to try my favourite squid ink pasta. Oh my gosh, it was so good, one of the best I have ever tried. Not that I have tried a lot in this world. Is hard to find, even in Italy. It was very nice in Piazza San Marco. Nice architectural buildings, beside the sea and as well as lotsa pigeons in the square. The pigeons are really human friendly too. They even flew on my hands. In Italy, there is water fountain everywhere, and do you know that all these fountains produced drinkable water. It is really impressive as it was designed and used by the Romans, and it is well kept till now. Do you also know that the Masquerade started from Venice. They have so many shops selling masks. At times, I was so tempted in getting one, but I know my travel bag is so big and is going to be difficult for me to carry around.
You will definitely love Venice if you visit it. In Summer, everything will be brighter and nice, but you will get those smelly stenches from the river. In Winter, you do not get a lot of light, but you will not smell anything. It can be cold at times, BUT you will definitely not see a lot of tourists. =p
