Rome, Italy
Elena asked me what were my top 5 destinations of Europe, and I told her mine, and she asked me if I have been to the rest of Italy and I said no. She told me that I will probably enjoyed the rest of the Italy from Venice onwards and would definitely at least like Rome. She said that I will either LIKE or LOVE Rome.
Well, I must say that I really LOVE Rome, and I think is for reasons I can’t really explain. Not only is so full of history and all the nice roman architectures are still in one piece, but also of how alive the city is. Is like living in the past. I felt the connection….totally.
First, my host was really good. She is Daniela and her house is so big and nice. Thank god we got such a nice and big place for us to stay especially since we have so many days in Rome.
One of the first major sites that I visited is the Colosseum. And from the looks of the outside, you just feel you are in the ancient Rome. As if you were a Gladiator preparing to go into the Colosseum for your final battle. Didn’t go in because I heard that there is nothing much inside to see. Then there is the Roman Forum, which is one of the largest Roman ruins site that is founded till date. You just feel as if you are living there. Is true, I know I have said it 101 times in this post, but is true. I mean, other than the tourists, everything is perfect for me.
Then this was the tomb of the unknown soldier. Ok, this is a little strange. The make this whole building for an unknown soldier and had 2 guards there everyday for it. This is so strange. I think I will choose to be unknown for this life, then I will have such a good after-live treatment.
This is one of the most random buildings that I entered. From outside I saw really nice designs on the wall and impressive sculptures, and so I decided to come in to steal a few shots.
This is one of the most beautiful churches that I have visited in my life. It is not really written in any of the guide books, but it is around Piazza del Gesu. It has really heavenly ceiling, and the site of it makes you just want to believe that heaven is really so nice. There is the tourist seeking Trevi fountain which is rumoured that if you throw a coin into the fountain with your back facing it, you will return to Rome again. And if you throw a 2nd coin, it will grant you that wish. How true is it, try it and you will know. But one thing is for sure, that I wouldn’t mind making another trip back to Rome. The view from the top of Piazza di Spagna (Spanish quarters). To get up here, you have to climb the Spanish steps. This is Pantheon, one of the best preserved Roman architectures. It houses the bodies of all the Roman Kings and the interior is skillfully crafted.
Now, I’m only have way through saying how good this city this. Next is Vatican City.
I was actually expecting a lot more of Vatican has to offer. Even thought it didn’t turn out to be really very grand, but it was really worth it. It gives me a deja-vu feeling. As if I have been here before, or I have remember reading it or seeing it before.
Been into the Vatican Museum, other than Sistine Chapel, it is really like the same Museum that I have visited all over Europe. In Sistine Chapel, you get to see the marvels of Michangelo’s masterpiece. Seeing is believing, go see it. The view of St Peter’s Basilica and Square.
The altar in St Peter’s Basilica.
The statues around St Peter’s Square.
Simply enjoying and appreciating the proud history as a Roman Catholic…..
With that much said, is easy to tell that my new no.1 city in Europe is definitely Rome. =)
Is absolutely fantastic. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
